Friday, May 9th is Military Spouse Appreciation Day. The day was established in 1984 by President Ronald Reagan and is always celebrated the Friday before Mother’s Day.
Military Spouse Appreciation Day acknowledges the contributions and sacrifices that military wives and husbands make every day. Military spouses are unsung heroes who play important support roles that positively impact America’s soldiers, as well as their local communities.
To pay tribute to these special women and men, there are Military Spouse Appreciation Day events taking place around the country. Here are just a few:

Military Spouse Appreciation Events
Fort Carson – The Southeast Armed Services YMCA will give military spouses a morning of pampering. This free event from 9am to noon features massage, beauty treatments, paraffin treatments, fashion and home décor ideas and more. RSVP and registration required.
Fort Hood – A Military Spouse Appreciation Day luncheon will be held from 11:30am – 1pm at Club Hood. For reservations call 254-286-6600, 254-287-2327, or 254-288-3566.
Fort Sill – There will be a Spouse-A-Palooza Military Spouse Appreciation Night from 6-8pm at the Fort Sill Patriot Club. This free event includes a night of pampering, yoga/zumba demonstrations, door prizes, hors d’oeuvres, and other activities. Reservations required.
Harbor Bay at MacDill AFB – Spoil yourself at the Military Spouses Appreciation Spa Day from 9am – 1pm at the Harbor Room. Enjoy manicures, pedicures, massages, hair styling, and special treats from restaurants. RSVP required.
Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst – Military spouses are invited to the Military and Family Support Center at 3435 Broidy Rd. from 10am – 2pm for a Military Spouse Appreciation Day Celebration. Call 754-3154 for more information.
San Diego Padres – The San Diego Padres actually have 13 Salute to Military games throughout the season, with Mother’s Day, May 11 being celebrated as Military Spouse Appreciation Day.
Scott AFB – The Scott Spouses’ Club will be holding its first annual Military Spouses’ Day 5K Run/Walk. Festivities start at 10am, and race starts at 11am at Warrior Park Pavilion 11. Prizes will be given and refreshments will be served.
